AGR Case: SC scolds at Center's insistence for telecom companies, asking - 'Are we stupid?'
➥The Supreme Court on Wednesday slapped the central
government for the AGR dues. The Supreme Court was upset over the central
government's insistence on telecom companies. The court said that if the owners
of the telecom companies wish, they will be summoned to court and sent to jail
from here. The Supreme Court said the balance would not be re-evaluated.
➥"This is a contempt of court," the court said. Who
asked to be re-evaluated for the balance. "This is a case of the Contempt
of Court," the court said. We were not allowed to re-evaluate the balance
due, yet how did this happen? "Are we stupid?". Is it a matter of
respect for the court?
➥The Supreme Court said that the telecom companies think that
it is the most powerful in the world. Justice Arun Mishra said that telecom
companies must be compensated as per the court order. Companies must pay
interest and penalties. The court said it would decide on the plea to the
telecom companies at the Center for the reimbursement deadline. Two weeks
later, the Supreme Court will hear the matter again.
➥The Supreme Court has asked the telecommunication company to
pay the spectrum amount and gross adjusted revenue (AGR) legal debt of 1.47
lakh crore by March 17. Payment of such a large amount can affect the financial
position of the companies. DoT estimates that Vodafone-Idea alone has Rs 53,000
crore left over. These companies are much more than their estimation.
