Union Minister Of Environment Shree Prakash Javadekar said eight beaches of the country have been recommended for the coveted Blue Flag international eco lable.



Speaking on the eve of International Coastal Clean clean up day he said 'Clean beaches are a testimony to good environment in coastal areas and India's many beaches are among the best in the world.

Eight selected Beaches::

1] Shivrajpur, Gujarat

2] Ghoghla, Daman & Diu

3] Kasarkod beach, Karnataka

4] Kappad, Kerala

5] Rushikonda, Andhra pradesh

6] Radhanagar beach, Andaman & nicobar islands

7] Golden Beach, Odisha

8] Padubidri beach, Karnataka

The international jury is likely to take its call for certification next month.

What is Blue Flag Certification?

Blue Flag certification is a globally recognised eco label accorded by an international agency foundation for environment education, Denmark based on 33 stringent criteria in 4 major  heads.

1] Environmental Education & information.

2] bathing Water quality.

3] Environmental management & conservation.

4] Safety & services in the beaches.

The blue flag beach is an eco tourism model endeavouring to provide the tourists clean and hygenic bathing water, facilities, safe & healthy environment & sustainable development of the area.

There are more than 4000 blue flag beaches world wide with Spain leading the number of beaches per country with thus certification.
